Jon Machin

Jon is a leading and well-respected authority on gaining and implementing compulsory purchase powers. With extensive experience in the whole compulsory purchase lifecycle, from definition of the land and rights to be acquired to their registration following acquisition, Jon can provide valuable insight on the future implications of decisions made at each process stage.

His knowledge and skills have been gained over a long career dedicated to working with acquiring authorities, landowners and developers to achieve their objectives. He is currently retained by London and Continental Railways as a technical advisor in their role as Independent Land Advisor to the Department for Transport for HS2 property acquisitions. Recent roles have included provision of consultancy services to the Transport for London planning team for Crossrail 2 and to Heathrow Airport Limited for the preparation of a Development Consent Order to authorise a new runway and Heathrow Airport remodelling, as well as various roles for Crossrail including Transport and Works Act Order Delivery Manager and Property Information Manager.

Jon is passionate about process efficiency and statutory and regulatory compliance throughout the compulsory acquisition process, whilst retaining a ‘people centric’ approach.
